Digital Printing Frequenty Asked Questions

Should I pre-wash?

You'll notice our fabric arrives pressed and crisp but will be delighted to know that it softens beautifully in the wash, resulting in a much softer hand with a nice drape. Pre-washing our digitally printed fabrics before use, as with any fabrics, is a personal choice. There isn't anything inherently different about the digital printing process that requires washing before use. Remember to bear in mind that all cotton shrinks with washing. We offer cuts in 1/8 yard increments so you can easily order a little more to account for slight shrinkage.

How does the fabric hold up under washing?

In a word, beautifully! Our digitally printed fabric holds up very well under ideal washing conditions. We do everything on our end possible to ensure the fabric will meet both our own high expectations and those of our customers. Please follow these simple care instructions.
  • Machine wash cold, gentle cycle
  • Wash with like colors using phosphate free detergent
  • Do not bleach
  • Choose a larger load size to prevent creasing
  • Tumble dry low, remove promptly or line dry
  • Warm Iron

What size needle and thread should be used?

A standard size needle of 10 or 12 can be used on our Quilting Cotton. Due to the high thread count of our Poplin, we strongly suggest choosing a finer needle size 10 or 11. For our Canvas, a needle size of 14 or 16 is recommended. As for thread, we like piecing with a 40 or 50wt, though any thread weight may be successfully used. We have enjoyed using our printed fabric for a variety of projects: from quilts to apparel, and everything inbetween.

What is the fabric weight and width?

Our Poplin fabric is 58/59" wide and weighs approximately 3.5 oz per yard before printing. It is 100% cotton.

Our Quilting Cotton fabric is 58/59" wide and weighs approximately 3.4 oz per yard before printing. It is 100% cotton.

Our Linen Cotton Canvas is 55/56” wide and weighs approximately 6.5 oz per yard before printing. It is 55% linen/45% cotton.

Printed weights will vary depending on the amount of ink that is used in any given design.

What is digitally printed fabric?

Instead of employing traditional screen printing methods, we print our designs digitally. Using water based pigment dyes, our designs are printed directly onto the fabric. Pigment dyed simply means that the printer lays ink down on the surface of the fabric, much like the conventional inkjet printers you find in the home or office - just supersized! The benefit is that we can achieve a very high level of detail in our designs.

Where is the fabric printed?

All printing and design is done in our shop in a small town in Upstate New York State (USA).

Can an order be placed with Express Shipping?

All of our in house fabrics are printed on demand. Please allow 1-2 business days for order processing before it may ship. If you need other goods urgently you may wish to place your digitally printed order separately.

Can I modify / cancel the digital prints in my order?

Once a digital order has begun processing it cannot be altered or canceled.

Do you offer Wholesale accounts?

No not at this time. However we do have a generous Tiered Pricing system for discounts on order size, cut size and customer appreciation. To take full advantage of this system, you should create an account with us!
